For me there are only 5 superstars in the NHL now... so having guys not make it to that level is no big deal...

McJesus
AM34
Makar
Igor
Nate the Great.

Yeah Yeah Yeah.... I know I left tons of *Stars off the list... but these 5 for me are Superstars.

How can you include Makar and Shesterkin when they're the only ones you didn't list a nickname for? Seems to be a staple for superstars (The Great One, Super Mario, Sid the Kid, The Great 8, etc.). Until that changes, your list is bogus and I am unsubscribing from your newsletter.

Physical attributes are one thing but mental attributes separate the men from the boys. Ben Hogan the golfer once said the hard course he ever played with the 6 inches between his ears. Some just do not have the mental game to add to the physical game. This blog proves just that

Not sure how a guy with a Hart trophy, 4 straight seasons of 100+ point pace (behind only McD in PPG) and 93 points in his last 71 playoff games isn't a superstar.

who are probably not going to be hall of farmers when their careers in the NHL ended…

Derek Stepan grew up a few miles down the road from where I grew up. Dere Stepan lived further down the road.

Igor is great. But he’s only played 100 regular season games with over half coming this past year. Kirill the Thrill has a few more games. Is he a star but not a superstar?

For me he was on the cusp. Just so much talent around him…

I just picked the guys who singlehandedly could win a series …takeover games playing with a bunch a hockey buzz scrubs…

I got no complaints if anybody wants to include him… I just went with the five for me that are super stars…

Obviously Sans age …Crosby and Ovi would be on this list…but they’re on the 1A list … with Kuch for me…

For me he’s the next tier 1A …

goalies get a slight bump because they can affect the game so radically… And Igor even in a short sample size … is just straight nuts…

Fair enough. Kirill had that rookie season with Victor Rask as his center. We’ll see what happens.

Glad someone else caught the Hall of Farmers gaffe.

Some of these examples make very little sense. Just because a player has a great World Junior tournament...doesn't mean the expectations are to become an NHL superstar. Take an example like Robert Reichel. He plays on a line with Jagr and they piled up points against teams like Poland and Norway. Maybe casual observers expected Jagr and Reichel to become NHL superstars, but actual hockey experts believed Jagr would be a star (drafted 5th overall) whereas Reichel was projected to be a skilled top 6 winger (hence he was drafted 70th overall).

Reichel basically met those expectations.

Scored 40+ goals twice, scored 20+ goals four other times, plenty of international success. Recall he was the guy who scored the shootout goal against Canada at the 1998 Olympics. Same with Eberle. Scouts weren't fooled by his World Junior tourney. He slipped to #22 in the draft. His career has met expectations. Your best example was Justin Pogge who was expected to be a Vezina goalie and was a total bust.

Not to mention 2 - 50goal seasons and would have 4 if it wasn't for covid.
Nate has never had a 100pts or 50goals.
AM34 has 1 - 50goal season and 1 - 100pts season
